"I grew up playing sports. Competitive swimming and football were my first disciplines. I learned early that accomplishment doesn't come from desire alone. It comes from hour after hour of practice. Lap after lap, drill after drill, focusing on improving technique and skill. That same drive to improve now lives in my studio. Each day I show up to paint the way I showed up to the practice field, with the focus and respect for the craft. Painting has taken the space where my passion for sports used to be. I aspire to be the best that I can, while loving the process along the way."
Joel is a lifelong Massachusetts resident. He finds inspiration in New England’s natural beauty along with concepts that take him back to his childhood. He graduated from University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth with a BFA in illustration. His career was spent teaching high school design students at Keefe Technical School in Framingham, MA.
Today he paints full time, creating landscapes, seascapes, and 70's pop culture iconography. His paintings primarily incorporate an impressionistic style. His use of bold colors makes his work unique. He loves the process of making art, because it provides him with an emotional connection to it. Illustrating these connections helps him to successfully navigate the emotional process of making art.
